I recently presented to a yoga teacher training a group, soon-to-be yoga instructors. I covered a lot of topics, but one of them has popped up that I wanted to share with you now, and that was the concept of potential versus expression.
If you recall for decades the scientific dominant model of genetics Genetic determinism, which says that the genotype completely determines the phenotype, that is, the genes completely determine how an organism turns out.
Along comes a brand new science called epigenetics, which changed all of that.
From Harvard University...
"Recent research demonstrates that there may be ways to reverse certain negative changes and restore healthy functioning. "
“Epigenetics” is an emerging area of scientific research that shows how environmental influences—children’s experiences—actually affect the expression of their genes. This means the old idea that genes are “set in stone” has been disproven. Nature vs. Nurture is no longer a debate. It’s nearly always both!
"During development, the DNA that makes up our genes accumulates
chemical marks that determine how much or little of the genes is
expressed. This collection of chemical marks is known as the “epigenome.”
The different experiences children have rearrange those chemical marks. This explains why genetically identical twins can exhibit different behaviors, skills, health, and achievement. "
Thus, the epigenome can be affected by positive experiences, such as supportive relationships and opportunities for learning...
... or negative influences, such as environmental toxins or stressful life circumstances ...
... which leaves a unique epigenetic “signature” on the genes.
These signatures can be temporary or permanent and both types affect how easily the genes are switched on or off. Recent research demonstrates that there may be ways to reverse certain negative changes and restore healthy functioning. "
Your environment is critical about how you get activated or get suppressed.
I support you if you want to uplevel your life to check into these questions:
* What is the state of your current environment?
* What were your past influential environments?
* What do you express?
* What do you depress; psychologically, mentally, emotionally?
* When will you take control of your environment?
There's an inner environment and there's an outer environment. I support you if you really, really want to learn how to navigate your new life in this new post-2020 world, join me May 13 to 16.
