The Power of Language

 

Hello beautiful people, Lou Corleto here with a few inspired thoughts that occurred from some experiences over the past couple of days. 

Specifically, the 'power of language' for influence; influencing ourselves right? For or against, and influencing others, again for or against. The power of language.

So yesterday, I was at a local university, an institution of higher learning. And the young gentleman who's matriculated at the university was helping me and I asked him for a pen. And he turned around and started looking for the pen as he apparently forgot where you put it.

But listen to his dialogue. "Oh, stupid me, where did they put the pen? Stupid me".

And then later in the conversation, I asked him a question. And he said, "Well, I don't know anything about that. I'm a biology major. That's all I really know. And I don't know anything about chemistry. And I don't know anything about this and this, etc".

What's the power of a REAL decision?

 

Let's talk about commitment.

WOW, how many times I've 'committed', but didn't really commit? That's because I gave 'words' to the action of committing. And I had a good intention. But as you know, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Let's talk about what occurs when we really commit when we've made a decision. Now let's break that down, to decide. The Latin of decision, to decide = is actually to kill or cut off.  Examples: pesticide, homicide, suicide)

When we cut off all other choices, (as one of my teachers says) "There is no plan B for your A-game". When we make that level of a decision, when we cut off all their options, we don't give ourselves an out, it gets done. That 'thing' becomes the only option.

That's the only possibility. You have eradicated all the other options.

What's your buoyancy compensation device?

 

With this beautiful background, I thought I'd bring up the concept from physics called buoyancy, or upthrust.  Buoyancy is a principle of an upward force exerted by a fluid opposing the weight of an immersed object. That's why boats, you, and I float.

In scuba diving, you see the scuba divers that wear these vests, right? So when divers go down, after a certain depth, we become negatively buoyant, and we just keep sinking. So those vests allow us to put air in them to compensate for that which is why they are called buoyancy compensating devices.
Therefore, we can just hang out, wherever that is, 80 feet, 100 feet, and boom, just sit in neutral and hover in the water without any effort, no kicking, no swimming, just there. Because you're in a fluid. So without this, we're negatively buoyant, and we just keep sinking.

Playing Small

 

Take a breath. And let me ask you this question...

How does it serve you by playing small?

Yeah, I know that's an in-your-face kind of question right off the bat. So let me repeat it. How does it serve you by playing small.

I know it served me in the way that if I didn't play big, I couldn't fail. That was an easy out. And that seems to be a pattern with a lot of people that I work with as well.
We can't fail if we don't go big.

This leads us to living a life of mediocrity- of living a life of so-called 'safety and security'. So we do enough just to be good, but not strive for excellence, not to go for that greatness. But that's not who you are. And that's not what you're made of. So how does that play out for most people?

Well, they take jobs that don't fulfill them, they keep a job for insurance, they marry for money, or they marry because their family wants them to, instead of finding that soulmate, that true love that, that inspires them for everything that they stand for,...

We Get What We Tolerate

 

There’s a soccer stadium in Sao Paulo, Brazil commonly known as 'XV de Piracicaba' – a large and once beautiful structure, home to some great soccer games. but years of poor maintenance and corruption in regards to money that was supposed to be used to take care of the stadium resulted in a stadium in a state of disrepair.

The reason I share this story with you is that fundamentally—we get what we tolerate.

It’s as true in the 'XV of Piracicaba' as it is in our own lives, our relationships, our health. In every area of our lives, we get what we tolerate.

Be Informed & Take Control of Your Wellbeing

They are protections that were created after the atrocities of World War ll. These were critical protections because physicians were performing involuntary medical experiments on human beings.  These codes of ethics were created to help doctors improve the overall well-being of their patients.
